The Apothecary Shop

FOR YOU, FOR ME, FOR EVERYONE – this was the ethos behind The Apothecary Shop.

Having grown fruit and vegetables organically and under Soil Association Certification since 1996, and having had Handley Organics a successful and thriving organic fruit and vegetable and wholefood shop in Ledbury for many years it was a long held dream of Caroline and Ian to open an Organic and Ethical shop selling everything from the very best in herbs and supplements through to natural remedies, organic & ethical products for skin & hair care, toiletries and make-up, essential oils for aromatherapy and massage, by way of ethically sourced household and products and to do it in the best manner possible.

When in 2009 Polly Wilson came to work in the Handley Organics wholefoods shop, having escaped a more hectic life in London, Caroline and Ian knew that the final essential part of their jigsaw for opening such a venture had fallen into place. It seemed fairly simple to aquire the lease on a suitable town centre shop and fit it out in good quality recycled shopfittings and fill it up in a friendly and pleasing way and construct and decorate a therapy room, though a suspect that the rose tinted spectacles of hindsight covered a lot of very hard work by all concerned and many late nights getting exactly how they wanted it. But Ian and Caroline had always known that a nice shop with the best available range of products was all very well, but they also appreciated that the main asset for any business were the people who staff and run it and in Polly and later Becky  and Anne, they had found the perfect people.

Polly is a qualified Homeopath and a Therapist with such a fountain of knowledge who had previously managed a prestigious health centre in London. She has indepth knowledge of the herbal and homeopathic remedies and how they can help influence the lives of people with all sorts of troubling conditions. Also being a normal fashionable woman she had a good awareness of what was in the market place for organic and ethical bodycare and makeup products, and threw herself into further in-depth research with a staggering amount of enthusiasm and together with Caroline they started sourcing the very best in products from the leading suppliers such as Elysambra, Dr Hauschka, Inika, Anne Marie Borlind, Spiezia, Herbfarmacy, Weleda, Jason and the list goes on. The Therapy Room

We also offer to local Therapists a pleasant and peaceful therapy room at the rear of the shop. This is proving very popular and is a way for therapists to offer regular treatments at a purpose-built room in the middle of this lovely town. The therapy room is available to hire by the half or full day and for long or short periods and currently offers therapies for all sorts of different disciplines.
